Type 100 "Shishi"

This falls into the "what if" category, as in "what if" this project had actually been finished. The vehicle is a German Panther with paint and markings similar to the Japanese Type 97-Kai from the 7th tank regiment that served in the Philippines in December of 1944. Japan had plans to purchase Panthers and Tigers from the Germans. One of each was actually purchased, but where never delivered. Unfortunately this model was dropped and suffered a catastrophic failure when it hit the floor. "Shishi" are the lion statues found outside (in pairs) of Shinto temples. They are said to repel evil spirits. The accompanying scene was to be the Panther under a Torri gate in Japan waiting for the Allied invasion of the home islands. |
